RESULTS REGIONAL WOMEN’S OVER 40yrs TOURNAMENT – CANNOCK HC 1st & 2nd JULY 2006
The North entered a team in the inaugural Regional Women’s Over 40yrs Tournament. With only two months notice, a squad of 17 players travelled, with 16 available for each day.
The team, under the captaincy of Linda Carr, started slowly on the Saturday but by the last match on Sunday the standard of play was superb. The technical table commented on the innovative and free flowing game that the “girls” from the North produced, playing as if they were a team that played together regularly. They were a delight to watch.
In the first game against the Midlands, the North went 1-0 up with a goal from Nancy Stokes but the Midlands equalised with a goal from a short corner at the very end of the game. In the afternoon, in the stifling heat, the South beat us 3-1, with our goal coming from Fiona Tuplin.
The Sunday brought no relief from the heat which had persuaded the organisers to reduce the time from 25 to 20 minutes each way. A decision that was very welcome to all players. The first game was against the East and with goals from Sue Catton and Jane Ambler the North won 2-1.
The match against the West was fantastic for all North supporters with goals from Fiona Tuplin (PS), Nancy Stokes (2) and Jane Ambler in the first half. Despite some excellent hockey, the score stayed the same 4-0 to the end.

· the organisers in the Midlands but especially the local organiser Deb Wilkes who made an excellent job of organising the event and managing to find us a very good hotel
· Julia Tapley for all her help organising the kit and for giving much needed advice
· Linda Carr for captaining the team in a very thoughtful and professional way
· Kath Davis, our excellent goalkeeper, who celebrated her birthday on the Sunday
· All team players who, without practise or knowledge of each others games, gelled into a formidable squad.
Congratulations also go to Linda Carr, Sue Catton, Karen Llewellyn and Sue Morgan for being selected for the England Over 45 squad to play in Leverkuson in September.
